OpenHeritage3D.org is an open access repository for LiDAR and photogrammetry data related to cultural heritage. As the world changes these snapshots in time are of increasing importance, they must be preserved and maintained in a way which enables visualization, storytelling, analysis, and re-use.

The project was started by CyArk in 2019 to democratize access to big data portraying hundreds of the worlds most precious cultural heritage sites. In 2020 CHEI staff  joined the project to build-in visualizations enabling streaming of massive files in web-browser.  OpenHeritage3D.org is now operated by CHEI, whose access to cutting edge technological resources ensures long-term data preservation, scholarly standards for research provenance, open access, and integration with innovative visualization systems allowing democratic use of models within the metaverse.
